What are Low Light Lasers?

Low light Lasers are also known as Cold Lasers or Photobiomodulation Therapy

The therapy is designed to repair tissues and to reduce pain & inflammation.

During treatment a small LLLT device is placed over the target area. The low levels of light penetrate the skin without heating or damaging the tissues.

Traditional lasers can burn or damage the skin, as they use around 300watts. Cold lasers only use between 5-500 milliwatts, meaning they are safe and painless to use.

How does LLLT work for pain relief?

Cold lasers penetrate deep into the skin and have an effect on all types of cells including muscle, ligament, nerves and cartilage.

The light from the low light laser penetrates the body and has a positive impact on small, cellular organelles known as mitochondria. These are responsible for our energy production. The mitochondria react to this low level light, by increasing their production of ATP (our main energy source) which accelerates healing in all the surrounding tissues.

The light stimulation also triggers the production nitric oxide (NO), which increases circulation, reduces inflammation and therefore allows better transport of oxygen and immune cells through the surrounding tissues.

Do all patients receive LLLT ?

Your chiropractor may use LLLT on you during your treatment for specific areas of muscle tension or may use it as an adjunct to your regular care by stimulating the nervous system to promote healing.

What will I feel?

Nothing! During LLLT you won’t feel anything, no heat, no pressure. It is non invasive and used by  trained experts is widely regarded as a very safe therapy.
